The stars of Bridgerton Nicola Coughlan and Claudia Jessie have hinted at a subtle undercurrent of tension between their characters Penelope Featherington and Eloise Bridgerton in the upcoming season.
The highly anticipated arrival of Bridgerton season three part one on Netflix is set for May. This installment of the series will focus on the captivating relationship between Penelope and Colin Bridgerton, who happens to be Eloise's brother.
In the season 2 finale, viewers witnessed a disagreement between the two close friends when Eloise discovered Penelope's secret identity as Lady Whistledown, the well-known writer of the Ton's newsletter.
During an exclusive cast and crew Q&A session, attended by Digital Spy and other members of the press, the two cast members revealed that the tension from the fight will carry over into the upcoming season.
"They didn't get along off-camera," Claudia Jessie states politely. "I believe the extent of the betrayal is significant, so I don't anticipate a quick resolution. Nonetheless, it may have some positive aspects."
"They seem quite young." I always make an effort to keep in mind their youth and the fact that Eloise comes from a very privileged background. "A very comfortable background," she continues politely. "This is quite unfortunate - the first." With a friendship at that age, it's incredibly significant, so there is still a lot to explore.
Jessie mentioned, "It would be wonderful to mention that we began [scene one] and we're like 'back together'." I'm sorry, but that's not true.Nicola Coughlan suggests that Eloise is quite upset, while Jessie agrees that this could be beneficial for her character.
Executive producer Shonda Rhimes emphasised the significance of their friendship in the third series.
"I believe it's the second love story of the season," she politely stated. "It's a show that I really enjoy watching."It appears that some of the tension between the pair may be attributed to Eloise's protective nature towards her brother Colin.
"The Bridgertons, they have such a lovely bond," Jessie remarks. "It's truly heartwarming to witness their togetherness. We thoroughly enjoy doing those scenes together too.
"They are quite protective, especially given the recent revelations in Whistledown. I believe Colin has been particularly affected by all of this. Additionally, Eloise still holds strong affection for Penelope, which is a significant matter."She mentioned, "It's a challenging situation, but it worked out well for us." We had the opportunity to work on numerous scenes together.
We thoroughly enjoyed working together on set.Colin actor Luke Newton acknowledged the strong connection between all three individuals, describing it as a "triangle" but clarifying that it is not a romantic love triangle. Jessie concurs, referring to Eloise as someone who is frequently left out.
Regarding what viewers can anticipate from the rebellious debutante this season, Jessie acknowledges that Eloise does adhere to some of the Ton's traditions to understand the hype surrounding them.
"It goes against every part of her nature," she states. "It contradicts everything, but one admirable quality of Eloise is her persistence, even if it's unintentional. This situation presents a wonderful chance for her to observe what everyone else is doing, in her own unique way."
"Let's see what they're all talking about," she adds politely. "It appears that they have been able to successfully carry out this task on an annual basis." I believe it would be a wonderful opportunity to witness Eloise's unique approach in tackling something like this. It's quite amusing, if anything.
