Assemblyman drowns while travelling to Tarkwa Nsuaem to campaign

Tragically, a 34-year-old teacher who was seeking re-election in the Teberebie electoral area in Prestea, Western Region, lost their life in a river connecting Aklika on Monday, December 4.

Manasseh Addison Sackey, also known as Teacher Obour, tragically passed away while on his way to campaign in neighbouring villages. He was a beloved teacher at Teberebie M/A Junior High School.

As reported by Citi News, Teacher Obour's drowning incident bears resemblance to that of a former assembly member in the same constituency. This individual had competed against him four years ago and unfortunately met the same fate just two weeks prior to the elections.

Describing the incident, Nana Esi Brew Monney, a journalist from Prestea FM, shared that the individual who passed away was accompanied by approximately five other people.Despite the advice given by his campaign crew, the deceased was determined to make the journey, believing it to be a short distance that he could easily return from.

Regrettably, the canoe, with the teacher and five other individuals on board, capsized in the middle of the river.

"We have been unable to reach the chief of the area for a statement, and we are still awaiting a response from the Municipal Chief Executive as well."
