SIM cards that haven't been registered will be blocked for two days a week until September.

The NCA has told the public that, starting September 5, 2022, sim cards that haven't been registered will be blocked for two days each until the end of September.

In a press release, the NCA also said that blocking sim cards will be done in batches every week as a second form of punishment.

The first punishment is to reroute all outgoing calls so that a message plays every day before every call goes through.

In a letter dated September 2, 2022, signed by the Director-General, the NCA reminded the MNOs of the registration exercise which is ending on September 30, 2022.

"Please know that the punishments that were talked about at the NCA meeting on August 3, 2022, were put together and looked over after your submission. Please find below the punishments that have been decided on after a thorough review and with the approval of the Minister of Communications.

Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) will divide the SIM cards that haven't been registered into five groups so that this punishment can be carried out.

"These measures won't include blocking SMS, so non-registered subscribers will still be able to sign up if they want to. Subscribers who fully register their SIM cards while they are blocked will not be unblocked by the MNOs until 48 hours have passed. This is to stop the MNOs from messing with their systems every now and then.

Here are some of the ways Ghanaians have responded to the NCA's latest plan to get all active sim cards registered.

Ayariga Aperigre Gh – This is impossible! Anyway, our president is Akufo-Addo, and Ursula is in charge of communications. Not everything that shines is gold. SMH.

Golden Boy Razak – Every day you block those sim cards, the government loses money on the communication service tax. You guys are so completely incompetent.

Abdul Hakim: This is nonsense. We don't have a Ghana card to register, so what do you want us to do?

Aaaaaba living in our own country like refugees.

Masa, you should be careful about what you say. Firi s? mo y? De?n koraa meny? hwee

Appiah Joseph – Total madness. Who gets hurt a lot? You should be thinking outside the box, but instead you have this rude and ordinary attitude. We need to SAVE this country.

Tanyetorwo Mordzifa – How did this group of unreasonable and stupid people get into power? Ghana There are mistakes on the cards, but there are no correction centers close by. Is that my fault, too?
