'Little House on the Prairie' actress Melissa Gilbert discusses her decision to forgo Botox and embrace the natural process of ageing.



One could argue that Melissa Gilbert has made a return to the prairie.

Indeed, the lifestyle site for older women that she co-founded a year and a half ago is called Modern Prairie. Although it originates from a community setting, it has evolved significantly from its humble beginnings in Half Pint and "Little House on the Prairie."And she is perfectly fine with that.

Today is Gilbert's 59th birthday. She is highly enthusiastic about discussing ageing, or more accurately, embracing ageing, and exchanging anecdotes about her eight grandchildren. She aims to bring women together through Modern Prairie's new app, covering a wide range of topics from coping with grief to creating an exquisite charcuterie board.



We are all experiencing similar challenges as we grow older. Significant changes, not only physical ones such as menopause, perimenopause, and postmenopause. 

However, we are currently living in a home without any children. It is unfortunate that we are experiencing losses in our lives, such as our parents, jobs, and spouses. She informs me that we are getting divorced. "We must navigate through these transitions with resilience and determination."

Like many women, she found herself at a stage in life where her children were grown, her career was stable, and she began to question if there was more to life.

She pondered, wondering what her life would become. I would like to prioritise my own well-being and make choices that are more beneficial for myself moving forward.

Throughout her life, Gilbert made great efforts to stay on track, from her younger years as 'Half Pint' to navigating the challenges of menopause. The young lady who portrayed Laura Ingalls Wilder from ages 9 to 18, went on to pursue a career in front of the camera, appearing in various TV shows and films. She also had the opportunity to date notable individuals such as Billy Idol and Rob Lowe.

Throughout her career, she had received suggestions to change her appearance, such as losing weight, covering her freckles, and enhancing her figure. She underwent procedures to enhance her appearance, including breast augmentation and rhinoplasty. Additionally, she received treatments such as Botox and fillers. "It gradually increased, as you begin to engage in them and then require a bit more, and then a bit more.



"A little over a decade ago, she participated in "Dancing with the Stars," and although she took pride in her dedication and physical appearance, there was a certain aspect that caught her attention.

To be honest, I resembled the typical woman over 40 in Los Angeles. We all share common features, such as cheeks, brows, and lips. She chuckles as lines form around her eyes, saying, "My face looked great, but it wasn't actually mine.

"It was a significant moment for her, as she reflected on recent life changes including a divorce and health issues resulting from a broken back. This moment prompted her to contemplate her desired path in life. It has had a significant impact on her character and identity.

Staying in shape as we get older can be quite challenging. There is a change in your metabolism. She expressed her exhaustion, mentioning the uphill battle she was facing.
