How Melissa Gilbert spent the 59th year of her life


Today, May 8, 2023, Melissa Gilbert turns 59. Gilbert is best known for her role as Laura Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie in the 1970s and early 1980s. 

These days, her life is very different from what it was back then. She gave up her high heels for boots that she can wear in the chicken coop. This year's birthday is a great fit for her new life. "This is heaven," she said about the day.

When they bought the house, it smelled musty, had mold, and was full of bugs. But that didn't stop Gilbert and Busfield. As they fixed up their new little piece of heaven, they became DIY experts. Today, they live there full-time with their chickens, dog, and a beautiful yard. The actress who played Mary on Little House on the Prairie says she's never been happy.

From what Gilbert wrote on Instagram about her birthday, it looks like she spent the day with her family.

In the picture, Gilbert is sitting down and carrying a sleeping toddler. His hair is up in a messy bun, and he is wearing glasses.

Gilbert has two biological children: Michael Boxleitner, who she had with her second husband Bruce Boxleitner, and Dakota Brinkman, who she had with her first husband Bo Brinkman. Ruby, Ripley, Rosemary, and Eli are their grandkids. They are the children of her and Busfield.

What the former Little House on the Prairie star is doing now

Gilbert works a lot on top of living in her newly fixed-up cottage, taking care of her yard and chickens, and enjoying being a grandmother. She has a lifestyle business called Modern Prairie, which is "centered around modern, mature women and their needs and focuses on giving them the tools they need to regain their confidence as they age."

 Gilbert and his friends give their audience recipes, cooking tools, clothes, and things for the house. She also talks to "Modern Mavens" who come from different places and have had different kinds of lives.

The website says, "At Modern Prairie, we want to make a place where women can share their stories, ask each other questions, and learn from each other."
