Fans are worried about Monica’s smaller roles in Yellowstone season 5

In the testosterone-fueled, alpha-guy world of Paramount's neo-Western series "Yellowstone," women like Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) have to fight constantly for even the smallest step up the social ladder. Monica has been a regular on the show since 2018 and has been a part of more than 40 episodes up to Season 5.

She has been through a lot of drama and trouble during that time. And, since the show is mostly about white men fighting to keep a ranch built on Native American land, it's not surprising that Monica's background as a Native American makes her character's storyline more conflicted.

On the other hand, Monica's marriage to "Yellowstone" ranch scion Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) seems to offer at least some stability and security. But Kayce has his own problems. He is torn between his love for the ranch and his love for the Native American tribe he married into.

And because Monica got married, she is now the daughter-in-law of John Dutton, the cruel patriarch of the family (Kevin Costner). As a result, she is in an even worse situation in the show's ongoing, often very violent plots, where few characters are completely safe from John's "save the ranch" plans.

In the Season 5 premiere, Monica is hurt in a car crash with a buffalo and has to go to the hospital. This is just one of her many problems on the show. With all of this in mind, some fans are worried about Monica's role on the show right now.

Fans of Yellowstone think that Monica's less screen time is a bad sign for her future.

The scary truth is that late last year, TV Line wrote an article called "'Yellowstone' Deathwatch: Who Won't Survive the Finale to See Season 5" in which they said that Monica Dutton could be killed off. Even though she's still around, it's clear that her fans are worried.

A "Yellowstone" fan asked on the show's subreddit, "Did viewers hate Monica so much that the writers cut her role?" They went on to say that Monica gets a lot of hate on Reddit, but regular "Yellowstone" character Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) is much worse. They wrote, "I know [Monica] gets a lot of hate around here, but I find Beth way more annoying and ridiculous, and she's somehow the main character now."

"My money is on Monica," said Redditor u/Ricky Bobby 67, who thinks that Monica is the next character to be written off the show. And they think that her screen time is the key to setting up her departure.

"They've been giving her a smaller role on the show since Season 3," they say. Fans won't riot if her role in the show is lessened, but they will still feel the weight of her death. Reddit user u/Diab9lic added, "I feel like they keep trolling Monica's death too." He or she was also sure that the way the story was going on "Yellowstone" meant that Monica was going to die soon.
