Two women have been fined GH ¢ each after contending shamefaced to the offences of conspiracy to commit crime and furnishing false information to National Identification Authority Officers.
The suspects Olu Olarusi Toyin Tracy/ Tracy Mensah and Yvette Mensah, a Nigerian public and a Ghanaian public were formally charged with the offences of conspiracy to commit crime videlicet Furnishing False Information to the Officers of NIA, contrary to Section 23 (1) of Act29/60 and Section 17 (c) of the National Identification Authority Act 707 (Act 2000) and Furnishing False Information to NIA Officers.
On November 22, 2021, the indicted persons were arraigned before the Adjabeng District Court, Accra and they both contended shamefaced to all the charges preferred against them and were latterly condemned on their own plea and doomed to a forfeiture of Three Hundred (300) Penalty Units i.e. (GHS) each or in dereliction serve six months in captivity.
Meanwhile, indicted person Olu Olarusi Toyin Tracy/ Tracy Mensah is also to be repatriated to her country of origin after serving her conviction by the orders of the Court.
Background
On November 19, the suspects went to the Head Office of the National Identification Authority (NIA) to acquire a Ghana Citizen Card.
They were directed by the NIA enrollment Functionary to the CID (NIA) Office for the usual vetting, interrogation and authentication of documents that most suspected aspirants go through before they're allowed to go through the enrollment process of the Ghana Card if they're cleared by the Unit.
Police Disquisition
In the course of examinations, it was revealed that the birth instrument held by questionable Olu Olarusi Toyin Tracy@ Tracy Mensah bore the name “ Tracy Mensah” with questionable Yvette Mensah as the mama and one Alhassan Fusieni as the father all Ghanaians.
Farther disquisition bared that, questionable Yvette Mensah wasn't the natural mama of suspect Olu Olarusi Toyin Tracy/ Tracy Mensah and that, the two were noway related in any way.
It was also uncovered that the name Tracy Mensah was espoused by questionable Olu Olarusi Toyin Tracy with the concurrence of suspect Yvette Mensah so as to qualify questionable Yvette Mensah as her natural mama to enable her have a Ghanaian relation.
It was also revealed that questionable Olu Olarusi Toyin Tracy’s parents are Nigerians and she was born in Nigeria. Suspects Yvette Mensah in the cause of examinations verified to Police that, she was communicated by questionable Olu Olarusi Toyin Tracy to help her to acquire a Citizen Ghana Card by playing a mama part on her birth instrument
